FERNDALE, Wash. — Tonight, Friday, June 12th, there will be 3 events happening to celebrate the 2020 graduating class of Ferndale High School (FHS).
Ferndale High School (FHS) graduates of the class of 2020 have missed out on what has been considered typical rites of passage due to the closing of school buildings and the state’s Stay Home, Stay Safe order along with continued health safety mandates. So creative means to celebrate their accomplishments have been in the works.
PARADE
Some parents of FHS graduates were approved for a special event permit that allowed for parade of vehicles through town. Organizers say families and the community are welcome to line the parade route to cheer the seniors on while wearing masks and maintaining 6-foot physical distancing for health safety. The parade is expected to begin about 7:45pm.

At 8:20pm, the Ferndale School District will turn on the FHS stadium lights in honor of the graduates. Vehicles from the parade will be directed through the stadium where there will be music and cheering from some staff on hand. The public is asked not to come down for this but to stay home and “Make Some Noise.”
My Ferndale News recorded the parade as it passed through the stadium.

“Make Some Noise”
Also, at 8:20pm (aka 2020 in military time), members of the community are encouraged to make some noise from the comfort and safety of their residences.
“We really hope that we hear a roar starting at 8:20pm,” said FHS Principal Jeremy Vincent. “This is our opportunity as a community to really make a big noise, a big statement for this class. As their principal, I want these students to hear pride and celebration from people who support them and wish them well.”
