Truth be told, this was initially expected to be a website full of information for visitors and locals to make better use of the local business community. As that effort evolved, readers made it clear information that helped with their day-to-day challenges was of more interest. So over time, in an effort to respond to reader interest, the content evolved more toward news, weather and traffic and less about the business community.
While it is good business practice to give people what they want, there remains a need to shine a light on local businesses in a way that people will remain interested and engaged. That remains a goal for My Ferndale News and work continues toward that end. Being able to leverage a huge reader base just makes it a lot easier.
In addition, local political issues appear not to be of much interest to readers. We are taking the blame for that and will continue to find ways to better frame and package political news to encourage more interest and engagement.
