Suspicious vehicle results in brief lockdown at Custer Elementary School

CUSTER, Wash. — Custer Elementary School went on lockdown today, Friday, June 3rd, in response to a student’s report of a suspicious vehicle near the building. Students were scheduled for early dismissal today at 1pm.

According to officials with the Ferndale School District the report was made to Custer Elementary administrators who immediately notified law enforcement and the school went into a full lockdown “out of an abundance of caution.”

The lockdown was first reported about noon and then was reported to have been lifted about 12:30pm.

The Ferndale Police Department responded and investigated, and all students and staff were safe and accounted for.

After a comprehensive search of the building and surrounding perimeter was conducted, students & staff returned to normal operations. Law enforcement officials will continue to monitor the surrounding area through the remainder of the day according to district officials.

District officials did not immediately respond to a request from Whatcom News about what made the vehicle appear suspicious.
