Suspended driver recognized, a quick chase followed

A suspended driver was recognized by a Ferndale Police officer driving on Main Street and the officer attempted to pull him over.  But the suspended driver had other ideas.

According to court documents, on May 18th Richard L. Cadiente, age 29, was recognized by a Ferndale Police officer while driving on Main Street. The officer knew Cadiente’s license was suspended and attempted to pull him over.

Instead of pulling over, according to the court documents, Cadiente accelerated the Chrysler PT Cruiser he was driving to “approximately 50 mph in a 25 mph speed zone” in an apparent attempt to elude the officer. He then made an “abrupt” turn into an apartment driveway in the 2300 block of Main Street.

Then, rather than parking, Cadiente “exited” the PT Cruiser while it was still moving. The vehicle rolled into the apartment complex’s garbage cans and recycling boxes. Cadiente was located soon after behind a bed in an apartment in the complex.

According to Whatcom County Jail information, Cadiente was booked by Ferndale Police for attempting to elude a police vehicle, 3rd degree driving while license was suspended and obstructing a police officer.

According to jail records, Cadiente remains in custody.
