Summer Youth Theatre’s “Wizard of Oz” shows run Thursday through Saturday

wiz of ozThe curtain goes up for the Ferndale Summer Youth Theatre’s first performance of “Wizard of Oz” at 7pm tonight.

Nearly 80 kids entering grades 3 through 12 in the Ferndale School District have dedicated much of their summer to produce several live performances of “Wizard of Oz” for their neighbors over the next three days in the Ferndale High School Auditorium.

Shows are scheduled for 7pm Thursday (today), Friday and Saturday as well as a matinee on Saturday at 3pm. Tickets are $5 each and sold at the door. A ticket can be used to see one or all shows.

The kids take roles both onstage and in technical positions. Participants are ages 8  to 18 with the older kids mentoring the younger ones.

Several adults also came together to lead the program and provide support. They include:

    • Crissy Ford – director
    • Rachel Pringle – costumes and choreography
    • Katrina Moreau – art and painting
    • Don Pringle – sets
    • Heather Williams – set painting
    • Amy Gallant – costumes

The Ferndale Summer Youth Theatre was formed last year through the Ferndale Arts Commission with a grant from the Whatcom Community Foundation. Ticket sales and other donations enabled the camp to become self-supporting this year.
