FERNDALE, Wash. — The Nooksack River is expected to crest at Ferndale tomorrow afternoon, December 21st, just above the 15-foot mark. While there can be some road impacts at this level, they are far less than was expected based on the earlier river level forecast which expected the river to crest at 18.25 feet.
A Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday evening.
A strong weather system has been dropping heavy rainfall across much of western Washington with the heaviest rainfall occurring south and west of Seattle.
When the Nooksack River level at Ferndale gets near the 15-foot mark, the following impacts can be expected (based on historical observations):
- Water over the roadway on Ferndale Road north of Marine Drive and also north of Slater Road – road closure possible
- Water over the roadway at the corner of Barrett and Paradise Roads – road closure possible
- Water over the roadway at corner of Marine Drive south of Country Lane – road closure possible
River level forecasts change often and should be monitored frequently.
