Power outages during plummeting temperatures leave thousands in the cold across Whatcom County

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Puget Sound Energy (PSE) reported over 2,000 Whatcom County residents were without power as northeasterly winds grew in strength while also pushing temperatures well below freezing today, Thursday, January 11th.

As of 5pm, 2,420 PSE customer addresses were reportedly without power in scattered localized outages across Whatcom County.

Temperatures had dropped below 20 degrees in many areas across the county while wind gusts were reported to have reached 50mph in Ferndale and 45mph at the Bellingham Airport as of 5pm today.

An unknown number of City of Blaine power utility customers were reportedly without power this afternoon. They saw their power restored before 5pm according to city officials.
