Typically, Ferndale Municipal Court could be considered boring with its stream of defendants appearing before the judge, filling out paperwork and most heading on their way. But today, a couple defendants had other plans.

One defendant appeared before the judge on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. It was determined she might have a warrant for her arrest from another agency. While this was being confirmed, she bolted for the door and down the street.

A Ferndale Police officer took chase from the court down 2nd Avenue, across Main Street,  to Alder Street, catching up and detaining her at 1st Avenue and Alder Street. According to the officer, she now has additional charges of obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest to look forward to at her next appearance.

Soon after, there was a ruckus in the parking lot as another defendant was found beating on her probation officer’s vehicle with her fists and throwing rocks at the windows and side panels. It took more than one officer to safely take her into custody. According to a Ferndale Police officer on the scene, it looked like she had done about $2000 worth of damage. In addition to her original charges, she now faces a charge of felony malicious mischief.
