The trees have been cleared away and site grading is being completed for a planned business park between I-5 and Portal Way.

According to documents provided by the City of Ferndale, the property at 6407 Portal Way is destined to become a business park. This development coincides with the site preparation for a manufacturing building on the adjacent property to the north.

While a specific site plan has yet to be submitted to the city, 125,00 to 200,000-square-feet of building(s) are expected according to the city’s description of the business park project. In addition, access to the neighboring property will be provided through the business park.

Whatcom County property records show the property was purchased last year for $550,000 by Alpine Investment, LLC. which, according to state records, has Jerry and Lurline Hammer as governing members. The project contact is AVT Consulting of Bellingham.

The neighboring property to the north is slated to house a 110,000-square-foot “Flax 4 Life” food processing facility which received its conditional use permit in October of 2014. Flax 4 Life is a Bellingham manufacturer of gluten-free baked goods and specializes in baking muffins.
