The Bellingham Scottish Highland Games, which have recently been held at Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale, have been canceled this year according to organizers.

Fundraising for the event could be seen happening during November of last year when a crowdfunding page was created and shared on the organizers’ Facebook page. It was said then, “With families facing hard times, vendors and suppliers raising rates and the Whatcom County Parks increasing rent the Highland Games have <sic> funds have been dwindling for the last few years.”

Yesterday, organizers again took their Facebook page to make the following announcement.

It is with regret that the Bellingham Highland Games Association announces the 2017 Highland Games have been canceled. Due to a lack of funding for the 2017 year and a lack of active participants to put on an event of this size the 2017 Highland Games will not occur this summer.
