FERNDALE, Wash. — Plans are for a river floating event on the Nooksack River through Ferndale on Saturday, August 14th.

Participants are asked to gather at VanderYacht Park in Ferndale and launch their tubes, kayaks, etc. at noon from the beach on the river.

After an estimated 2-hour float, participants should plan to pull out on the east bank at Slater Road by the public access area parking lot.

This is the 2nd year of what organizer Jason Cooley calls the “Ferndale Float.”

Cooley emphasized to Whatcom News that this is not a supervised event and floaters are responsible for being safe and arranging their own transportation between the launch and pull out points.

Cooley said he hopes gathering other floating enthusiasts at the same time will make the experience more enjoyable and encourage others to join in.

The current weather forecast for Ferndale calls for temperatures in the upper 70s on Saturday. Participants are advised to be aware of cold water risks and not to swim alone.
