Neighbors in the 6100 block of Shelby Court sprang into action when a rocket-type firework ended up in catching fire to several tall bushes by a house this evening, July 4th.
According to Tara Adams, who was visiting a friend who lives in the house where the trees caught fire, “The neighbors lit one of those rockets from the reservation (not a bottle rocket, but the bigger ones that go up and sparkle) right into the trees. Then they went and hid in their house instead of grabbing a hose and trying like the rest of the neighbors to keep it under control until the fire department got there.”

Afterwards the neighbors scoured the neighborhood for any other potential fire hazards and found a spent “big rocket” laying in the yard of a neighbor who is away on vacation.
According to Adams, her friend has made a formal complaint with the police department.
Due to a month of record warm weather and dry conditions throughout the Pacific Northwest, most every official from the Governor on down has requested exercising restraint when it comes to fireworks this year.
