Drivers stuck in backups on Washington Street have likely noticed a large labyrinth that seemed to appear without any forewarning east of Golden Eagle Drive.
The full-size walkable labyrinth is an Eagle Scout project by Bobby Harkleroad utilizing a group of volunteers.
The labyrinth is located on the grounds of United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington Street, and is being built using red bricks the church has been saving for several years “just for a project like this,” according to a church volunteer.
Nearly 1,000 bricks will be used to complete the project. Once the bricks have been placed, sod will be brought in to provide a walkable path through the labyrinth.
According to Harkleroad, work at the site began last week but planning has been going on for much longer. The goal is to complete the project by mid June.
United Church of Ferndale has held labyrinth walks (described as moving meditation) indoors and will be able to do the same outdoors as a result of Harkleroad’s project.
