Approximately 1pm today (PT), a magnitude 6.9 earthquake was reported off the east coast of the island of Japan near the town of Namai. It was 9pm local time in Japan when the earthquake occurred.
Several significant aftershocks were recorded afterward according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

According to a statement issued at 1:10pm by the National Weather Service (NWS) National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer AK, there is no tsunami danger for Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California. “Based on earthquake information and historic tsunami records, the earthquake was not sufficient to generate a tsunami,” according to the statement.
