LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Officials with Whatcom County Ferry Division announced today, Sunday, January 12, 2025, that ferry service was restored shortly before 5pm. Service had been interrupted after a cable was damaged on the island-side ferry terminal.
An announcement at 5pm on Saturday cited a mechanical issue at the Lummi Island terminal. More detailed information followed.
A frayed cable at the Lummi Island ferry terminal has interrupted our ability to provide ferry service this evening (Saturday, January 11, 2025). As a result of this issue, we can only safely operate during specific tides. The tides are in our favor this evening, and we will resume ferry service at 8:00 p.m. Please anticipate delays during this evening’s schedule.
Unfortunately, the tides are working against us tomorrow morning, so all service will be suspended on Sunday until the issue is resolved. Our engineers, mechanics, and ferry crew will work diligently to resume service as quickly as possible tomorrow.
