Ferndale Force Wrestling Club‘s own Sam Cleary boarded a plane today on his way to wrestle at the Cadet & Junior National Championships. Cleary qualified by placing 2nd in Freestyle at the NW regional qualifier and 2nd in Greco Roman at the WSWA state tournament.
Considered the world’s largest wrestling competition, this national tournament is held at the FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota, July 18th to the 25th.
Cleary will be competing in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions.
According to Caleb Schlack, Cleary’s coach, “He just finished up his last camp and it was the best camp Sam’s ever had. He’s improved a ton.”
Cleary recently competed with the Washington State Junior Dual team in Oklahoma and came away with only two wins. According to Schlack, “Sam didn’t have tournament he wanted but got right to work on the weaknesses it revealed and has improved dramatically since.”
There is a GoFundMe account that anyone can contribute to that will help offset Cleary’s equipment and travel expenses.
