Initial reports were of a head-on crash in the westbound lane followed by vehicle versus pole crash in the same area. Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Washington State Patrol troopers and Whatcom County Fire District 14 (WCFD14) personnel were reported on scene.

WCFD14 Assistant Fire Chief David Moe told Whatcom News there were 3 vehicles involved in the crash and 2 patients were transported from the scene by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

Moe noted it was “extremely icy out this morning,” and “responders could hardly stand on the road while we were out there.”

WSDOT reported both lanes had been reopened by 9:50am.
