BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the area of the intersection of Guide Meridian and Kelly Road about 7:30pm, Wednesday, June 21st, due to reports of a multivehicle injury crash.
North Whatcom Fire & Rescue (NWFR) Fire Chief Jason Van der Veen told Whatcom News emergency medical crews transported 7 patients by aid vehicles to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center, some with serious injuries.
NWFR Division Chief Shaun Ward told Whatcom News bystanders pulled 2 persons from a burning vehicle while others controlled the fire until firefighters arrived.
As of 8:20pm, Guide Meridian is closed in both directions between Smith Road and Kline Road.
Unconfirmed reports were that 1 involved vehicle had been reported to 911 dispatchers before the crash as driving erratically and into oncoming traffic.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News confirmed there were reports to 911 about a vehicle driving into oncoming traffic on the Guide prior to the crash. 4 vehicles were reportedly involved. Troopers will be investigating the cause of the crash.
Harding added that an extended closure of the Guide in both directions can be expected while investigators work the crash site.

Update 11pm: WSDOT reports all lanes of Guide Meridian have been reopened.
