Two men are being treated for burns after a gas spill in a residential garage ignited.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) units responded to the call in the 7100 block of Atwood Road, located north of Grandview Road and east of I-5, around 6:30pm yesterday.
WCFD7 Fire Chief Gary Russell said a father and his son had been working on a vehicle in a garage area at their residence when spilled gas ignited. The fire was out when firefighters arrived, said Russell, but both men had suffered burn injuries.
Russell said both were transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center. The father, age 44, suffered burns to his face and hands and was later transported from PeaceHealth to Harborview Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.
