UPDATE 9:50am
The city and district have released a joint statement clarifying what was originally framed as a drill was actually a response to a threat.

We are revising our earlier announcement about the evacuation drill at Ferndale High School. The reason for the evacuation was that the school had received a bomb threat. Law enforcement is assessing the credibility of that threat but in the meantime students have been evacuated to outdoor locations. All students are safe. Law enforcement is at the scene with dogs.

The excavation at Vista Middle School has been canceled.
