Today, Governor Inslee requested flags fly at half-staff in memory of a Washington state soldier recently killed in Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Matthew V. Thompson, 28, was killed when an IED detonated near his dismounted patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Inslee asked that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff in his memory beginning Wednesday, September 7, 2016 until close of business or sunset on September 7, 2016. Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 1:30 pm at Faith Lutheran Church, Lacey, Washington.
