FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the southbound I-5 on-ramp off of Main Street in Ferndale about 5:45pm today, October 13th due to a report of a car fire.
According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding, a green 2004 Ford Expedition had gone over the guardrail and sustained heavy frontend damage. Resulting steam from the crash may have appeared to passerby to be a car fire.
Harding said their investigation showed the Ford had just exited southbound I-5 and continued across Main Street until colliding with the guardrail. It ended up going up and over the guardrail. About 5 to 6 guardrail posts and about 20 feet of guardrail were damaged.
The driver was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center while going in and out of consciousness. The crash and its cause are still under investigation.
