FERNDALE, Wash. — An affidavit of probable cause for arrest of Todd Daniel Andersen, age 48, prepared by Ferndale Police was submitted in Whatcom County Superior Court today, Thursday, July 7th, by prosecutors who have filed a 1st degree murder charge.

The murder charge is the result of an incident today about noon that left a Ferndale businessman dead at his company’s offices after suffering multiple gunshots.

According to the affidavit, Andersen entered the business in the 6200 block of Portal Way and told an employee he was there to see the victim because he wanted to have lunch with him. The employee text-messaged the victim who responded that he would be there shortly.

The victim arrived, greeted Andersen and they went to an upstairs office. The employee told police investigators the 20 to 30-minute conversation was audible but not able to be understood.

The employee said there were multiple gunshots, then Andersen ran down the stairs and pointed a pistol yelling that the victim had stolen from him. After Andersen left the building, the employee found the victim in the upstairs office and called 911.

Medics attempted lifesaving efforts on the victim but eventually declared him deceased at the scene.

Further investigation uncovered that Andersen had been an employee of the victim about 20 years ago. Andersen’s last known address is in Liberty Lake, east of Spokane.

As of 8:30pm, Andersen remained at large according to Ferndale Police Department Spokesperson Riley Sweeney.
