NOOKSACK, Wash. — Officials with the City of Nooksack announced Tuesday, March 21st, that new lighted crosswalk signs are now “up and functioning” at the intersection of Nooksack Avenue and Madison Street.

City of Nooksack officials say their goal was “to make this a safer intersection and crossing for school children and the many pedestrians that use this intersection on a daily basis.” “What we thought would be a simple project with just replacing the existing signs with new lighted rapid flashing beacons, turned into a 6-month long process working with WSDOT to get approval to do this and in meeting the requirements for a state highway.”
Pedestrians can press a button on either sign to activate lights on both signs which forewarn motorists that pedestrians will be entering or are in the crosswalk.
