According to an announcement today from the City of Ferndale (COF), Kevin Turner will replace Ferndale Police Chief Michael Knapp when Knapp retires at the end of the month.
Turner is currently Chief of Police for the Grantsville Police Department in Grantsville, Utah.
According to the COF’s announcement, the Mayor and City Administrator chose Turner from 6 finalists after they participated in a public meet and greet on Dec. 12th and several interview panels that included “active police officers, police guild members, representatives from citizen groups, border patrol, elected officials, and the general public.”
According to the COF website, Turner has been with the Grantsville Police Department since 2012. Prior to that, he was Precinct Commander for the Saratoga Springs Police Department in Utah from 2007-2012, a Patrol Officer for Lehi City, Utah, from 2006-2007, and he was a Patrol Officer for Provo City, Utah, from 1998-2005. He also served in the Utah County Sheriff’s Department from 1996-1998. Mr. Turner has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology from Utah Valley University, and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University.
The Ferndale City Council still needs to approve Turner’s employment contract.
