Western Washington residents are warned to expect conditions worsen as calmer winds will allow smoke to settle closer to the ground.

Winds are then expected to shift Friday which will bring smoke from the south into western Washington.
Ferndale has a permanent burn ban on all outdoor fires except for recreation fires but now those are also banned.
Recreational fires such as beach fires, fire pits and campfires are not allowed.
Yesterday's air quality alert has been expanded to include most Puget Sound counties and extended to remain in effect tomorrow.
