Western Washington residents are warned to expect conditions worsen as calmer winds will allow smoke to settle closer to the ground.

Winds are then expected to shift Friday which will bring smoke from the south into western Washington.
Ferndale has a permanent burn ban on all outdoor fires except for recreation fires but now those are also banned.
Recreational fires such as beach fires, fire pits and campfires are not allowed.
Yesterday's air quality alert has been expanded to include most Puget Sound counties and extended to remain in effect tomorrow.
When air quality is at this point, more people than average may have breathing problems or have worsened symptoms of existing asthma or lung disease.
Summer high winds can pose greater risks of power outages and property damage due to trees still having their leaves.
Thunderstorms are reported to have sprung up in and around the Seattle metro area earlier this evening.
The advisory begins at 7am for both western Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
