As of 6am, the snowfall was expected to continue across much of western Washington for another 3 to 4 hours.
"Drivers need to be prepared for icy conditions even on main roads like SR 20 & I-5."
Road conditions described as treacherous this morning. State and local agencies advise not to drive unless absolutely necessary.
WSDOT crews reportedly have begun plowing and treating roads in some locations.
"We are experiencing freezing rain across all of Whatcom County. Please stay in if you can and if you are out, slow down."
