FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 2pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026, to the 5600 block of Barrett Road due to reports of a crash resulting in a car fire and a power outage.
Initial unconfirmed radio reports from the scene said a passenger vehicle left the northbound lanes of I-5, went through a fence and ended up in a ditch along Barrett Road. A power pole was involved with wires down on the roadway. The driver was the sole occupant and was reported to be out of the fully involved vehicle.
A second vehicle on I-5 was reported to have been involved. Both drivers were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The section of Barrett Road was shut down while first responders dealt with the incident.

Puget Sound Energy reported a power outage that began at 1:55pm and impacted 1,310 of their residential and commercial customers. The cause was cited as “Accident.”
