Birch Bay shooting results in at least 2 in jail

BIRCH BAY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 7800 block of Birch Bay Drive about 7:15pm, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, due to multiple reports of an assault with a weapon.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) reported at 10pm they were currently investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 7:15pm in the 7800 block of Birch Bay Drive. They reported the shooting involved members of 2 motorcycle gangs.

According to emergency services radio dispatches at the time, first responders were dispatched due to multiple reports of gunshots fired by a person at another person. The shooter was reported to have left the scene according to witnesses.

WCSO reported at 10pm that “a person sustained non-life threatening injuries and is receiving treatment.”

According to radio traffic within minutes of the shooting, a Blaine Police Department officer performed a traffic stop on an eastbound motorcycle near the intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden Road and Blaine Road. A WCSO deputy performed a traffic stop on another motorcycle in the area of Birch Bay-Lynden Road and Kickerville Road. Both motorcyclists were reportedly placed into custody.

According to radio traffic, the wounded person was reportedly transported from the scene by a private vehicle. A Ferndale Police Department officer performed a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of I-5 and Slater Road. The officer applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg and requested aid personnel respond to their location on I-5. The man was then transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

Several individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Based on the information currently available, there is no known threat to the public.

Birch Bay Drive in the area of the incident was closed for several hours following the shooting.

Whatcom County Jail records showed 2 males, ages 31 and 54, were booked into the jail by WCSO shortly after 9pm. The 31-year-old, reportedly from California was charged with drive-by shooting and giving a false statement to an officer. The 54-year-old, reportedly from Monroe, WA was charged with 1st-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
