Ferndale Police announced today, December 18th, that a teller from the Ferndale branch of Key Bank had been booked into Whatcom County jail this morning. The branch had been reportedly robbed December 10th.

Jail records indicate Donna A. Brown, age 54, was booked on a charge of theft in the first degree.

According to Lt. Bill Hatchett of the Ferndale Police Department, their initial investigation provided probable cause to arrest Brown and she voluntarily turned herself in after communications between the police and her lawyer. Hatchett told Discover Ferndale Brown had not admitted to the theft and she had not spoken with police since hiring an attorney the day after the robbery.

Hatchett said they were confident that there was no gunman or other person posing a threat as was initially told to police when they arrived after receiving report of the robbery.

Brown is accused of taking over $30,000 in cash from the branch according to Hatchett. None of the money taken has yet to be recovered.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges related to the theft are a possibility.
