FERNDALE, Wash. — Several residents in the Portal Creek Park adult community, located at 6350 Portal Way, will be putting on garage sales today, Friday, August 28th, and tomorrow from 9am to 4pm.
Organizers say sales items will include dining chairs, furniture, fishing poles, coolers, women’s clothing, tools, dishes, artwork, appliances and custom quilting. They will be requiring visitors wear face masks while browsing.
The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce annual Community Wide Garage Sale has typically been held in the first weekend of May but was canceled for the first time in 2 decades this year due to health safety concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic according to Executive Director Anya Milton.
Anecdotally, the number of private yard and garage sales appear to be far fewer this year. According to CraigsList.com, there are 9 other private sales scheduled for this weekend within 5 miles of the 98248 zip code area.
Washington state COVID-19 Safe Start guidance does not specifically address private garage and yard sales nor does the Whatcom County Health Department’s website.
Staying home is still safest. If you do go out, keep it quick, keep your distance and wear a face covering. Recreate and do business locally to avoid spreading the virus across county lines. Limit the number of people outside your household that you gather with every week. If you feel symptoms of COVID-19, get tested.Washington State Coronavirus Response (COVID-19) website (August 2020)
