2 taken to hospital after crashing into Valley Hwy house

VAN ZANDT, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 7:30pm on Saturday, June 9th, to a report of a car versus building crash in the 3900 block of Valley Highway (SR9) in Van Zandt.

Whatcom County Fire District 16 Fire Chief Hank Maleng told Whatcom News they arrived to find the front of the vehicle inside a cinder block construction residence. There were no injuries to anyone inside the residence.

Firefighters had to remove the car’s front doors in order to remove the injured driver and passenger from the vehicle. The driver, a 27-year-old Deming woman, and the passenger, a 23-year-old Deming man, were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center by ambulance.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, a 2011 Honda CR-v was northbound on Valley Highway when it left the roadway to the right and crashed into the residence.

It was not known whether the occupants had been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Drugs or alcohol were determined to be involved. The cause remains under investigation and charges are pending.
