EVERSON, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 2000 block of E Pole Road in Everson about 6:10am on Sunday, February 22, 2026, due to report of residential structure fire.
Whatcom County Fire District 1 Chief Rachel Carlson issued a statement February 23, 2026.
At 6:10 a.m. on February 22, 2026, Whatcom County Fire District #1 crews were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire. Initial reports indicated the residence was filled with smoke with visible fire coming from beneath the structure. All occupants safely evacuated prior to fire department arrival.
WCFD#1 responded with an engine, water tender, and chief officers, supported through mutual aid by Whatcom County Fire District #16, Lynden Fire Department, North Whatcom Fire and Rescue, and the Northwest Tender Group, including tenders from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue and Whatcom County Fire District #7. Because the fire occurred in an area without fire hydrants, water tenders were used to shuttle water to the scene to maintain a continuous supply for fire suppression.
The structure sustained significant damage, and two occupants were displaced. The American Red Cross was notified and responded to provide assistance and support to the residents.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is handling the fire investigation, and the cause remains under investigation at this time.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our mutual aid partners and the dedicated fire/EMS dispatchers at Prospect, whose expert coordination and rapid response are vital to firefighter safety and to delivering effective emergency services to our community.
The fire department thanks the public for their cooperation in keeping the area clear during the incident.
