BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced today, Monday, March 24, 2025, they will be rebuilding a hillside that had slid onto the northbound lanes of I-5 during heavy rains in October of 2024. The work will require closing a lane of I-5 between the Iowa Street and Sunset Drive interchanges.

2 consecutive days of work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The lane closures will be from 4am to 2pm each day.

Motorists are warned to expect traffic backups and delays through the area. Alternative routes are suggested.

Both lanes of I-5 northbound were closed to all traffic for nearly 12 hours following the landslide. Workers had to clear about 2,000 cubic feet of slide debris along with a semi-truck and trailer that was stuck on the debris.
