190 students competed in 26th Districtwide Ferndale Math Olympiad

Ferndale School District officials reported that over 190 students from 4th through 8th grades participated in the 26th annual Math Olympiad event on February 8th at Cascadia Elementary School.

Months of practice led to the 4-hour competition. According to the District, “Students competed across a broad spectrum of higher level mathematics, ranging from algebra to probability.”

Grade 4: Cascadia, Jonas Carpenter
Grade 5: Central, Henry Huynh
Grade 6: Vista, Lucas Gonalzes
Grade 7: Vista, Emma Brockett
Grade 8: Horizon, Andy Obermeier

First Place Teams
Grade 4: Cascadia—Jacob Bagara, Jaiveer Bains, Mantaj Singh
Grade 5: Central—Henry Huynh, Lauren Pearson, Boomer Dahlstrom, Cody Salhus
Grade 6: Vista—Judah Phillips, Vitaliy Gorun, Lucas Gonzales, Bishop Ootsey
Grade 7: Vista—Emma Brockett, Aubrey Tegt, Ethan Barker
Grade 8: Horizon—Zach Bytnar, Andy Obermeier, Kodi Williams, Carsten Obermeier

These individuals and teams will compete next at the Whatcom County Math Olympiad scheduled for Saturday, February 24 at Blaine Schools.
