1 dead after early morning RV fire in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched around 4am today, May 7th, due to a report of a vehicle fire in the 1300 block of D Street in Bellingham.

Bellingham Fire Department (BFD) Captain Dave Pethick told Whatcom News several people in the area called to report the fire. Upon arriving, Bellingham Fire Department firefighters found a fully involved RV attached to a trailer. Firefighters found 1 person deceased inside the RV.

Upon realizing this was a fatality fire, BFD officials notified Bellingham Police (BPD) who are investigating with assistance from BFD according to Pethick.

Pethick said there were no injuries to anyone else. The RV was considered a total loss and the attached trailer incurred significant damage.

BPD Lieutenant Claudia Murphy said in an email a person living near the RV spotted the flames and knocked on the RV and trailer doors to alert any occupants and woke another person so 911 could be called.

The investigation to determine the origin, cause of fire and identity of the victim was still underway as of 1:30pm, Murphy said.
