Man awaiting trial on 6 child rape charges found in car with 14-year-old girl

FERNDALE, Wash. — A 22-year-old Lynden man awaiting trial suspected of 6 counts of child rape in 2022 was found in the backseat of a car with a 14-year-old girl about 1:20am on June 10th.

The man, identified as Everildo Mendoza-Ailon, was found with the girl after a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy checked on a car in a parking lot of a sports complex on W Smith Road in the early morning hours. The 2 occupants of the car were in the backseat. They admitted to “making out” at the time but it was later determined they had engaged in intercourse.

The girl told deputies Mendoza-Ailon knew she was 14 years old, but he told her he was 17.

The 6 charges Mendoza-Ailon was already facing were based on claims by other 14-year-old girls who said he told them he was 16 when he convinced them to have sex with him. He was actually 19 at the time. He posted $1,500 cash bail and was released from custody 3 days after being arrested on suspicion of those crimes in February of 2023.

Mendoza-Ailon now faces a new charge of child rape and bail was set at $150,000 in that case during a preliminary appearance hearing on June 17th.

As of June 22nd, Mendoza-Ailon remained in custody in the Whatcom County Jail Work Center awaiting trial in the 2 cases.
