Original Story
The Ferndale area, as well as most of western Washington, has been and is expected to enjoy clear skies for several days due a high pressure ridge held in place by a couple troughs. This is responsible for the lack of wind and rain. But it also comes with a cost, as an Air Stagnation Advisory from the National Weather Service warns,

Smoke dispersion will be poor through the end of Thanksgiving weekend… owing to temperature inversions and long periods of calm wind.

Conditions will be evaluated daily. It is possible the period of air stagnation will extend beyond Monday morning.

Thursday, November 26th, at 11am the air monitoring station on Loomis Road reported an air quality (WAQA) measure of 13, well within the “Good” range (0-50).

An air stagnation advisory is issued when air pollution could increase to unhealthy levels due to poor dispersion. Persons with respiratory illness should follow their physicians advice for dealing with high levels of air pollution.
