The Lummi Island ferry, Whatcom Chief, will be out of service Wednesday for regular maintenance and inspection of the terminal spans at both ends of the run. According to an announcement from Whatcom County Public Works, the Whatcom Chief will not be in service from 10:30am to approximately 3pm.

The ferry will also be out of service this coming Saturday night and Sunday night after the 10:10pm runs from the Gooseberry Point side so work can done to make improvements on the other side at the Lummi Island ferry terminal.

The ferry will resume service with the Sunday morning run at 7am and the Monday morning run at 5:40am

According to Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division Special Programs Manager Rob Ney, this overnight work is being done to install more durable and quieter rubber “flappers” at the end of the linkspan ramp replacing the current metal flappers. The rubber flappers are already in place on the Gooseberry Point terminal linkspan ramp.
