Weather Service issues Heat Advisory for today

sunny dayThe National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a heat advisory until 9pm this evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) temperatures are expected to climb into the mid 80s to mid 90s this afternoon for western Washington areas except for the immediate coastal strip. Temperatures are expected to then cool into the mid-50s to mid-60s overnight.

The good news is to expect significant cooling on Sunday with temperatures returning to near normal.

Hot weather increases the potential for dehydration and heat related illnesses. NWS advises the elderly, the young and those who work or exercise outdoors will be the most vulnerable to heat related illnesses if extra precautions are not taken.

Precautionary/preparedness actions include drinking plenty of fluids, seek an air conditioned place and checking on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
