WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Agriculture has issued a press release stating they are currently investigating a report of a possible northern giant hornet (formerly known as Asian giant hornet) sighting “in the Burley area near Port Orchard, Washington.”

We cannot at this time confirm whether the report is a northern giant hornet without the specimen, which we have not yet been able to obtain.

WSDA urges residents in the area to stay informed and report any potential sightings at agr.wa.gov/hornets or by emailing pest@agr.wa.gov.

If there are none, this year would mark 3 consecutive years without confirmed northern giant hornet sightings.
