Officials with the City of Ferndale report Whatcom County Public Works has closed Slater Road, east of the Nooksack Bridge, due to water over the roadway.

Traffic will be detoured via Ferndale Road (to the north since to the south is closed) and LaBounty Drive.

While no official estimate has been given for when it will reopen, it is expected to remain closed until after the river level recedes which is not expected until Friday evening or early Saturday.

The traffic impact of Slater Road closures typically spreads to Main Street. Drivers should plan for increased traffic volumes on Main Street as a result of this closure.
