There have been a few business closings over the past few months in Ferndale making news of three businesses getting ready to open a refreshing change.
Plans are in the works for one business to open on Portal Way at a location that previously housed a floral business. Sky High Pot Shop Owner Daman Chahil told Discover Ferndale he has been “getting a thumbs up” from State and City officials as continues working to open Ferndale’s second marijuana retail location at 6167 Portal Way.
According to Chahil, Sky High Pot Shop will sell flowers, concentrates, edibles, drinks, concentrates for vaporizers and glassware. Chahil currently operates Kent Smoke Shop in Kent, Washington. Chahil chose Ferndale after trying to find a viable location at other locations around the state. “The hardest part the business is finding a location. There are so many location restrictions and every city has its own set of rules,” said Chahil.
There is going to be another barber shop opening soon in downtown Ferndale at the beginning of the year if things continue per plan. Ken Craver, aka Barnicle (sic) Bill Bob, told Discover Ferndale Ye Old Barber will be opening New Year’s Day in the refurbished Leader Block Building at 2nd Avenue and Main Street. Craver is planning a Tuesday through Saturday schedule from 8am to 8pm but will be open 10am to 3pm on Sunday, New Year’s Day to celebrate the business opening.
Craver said he has been barbering since 2000 and specializes in modern, clean and classic cuts for ladies, children and men. Hot lather neck shaves are standard for men. Ye Old Barber can be reached at 360-389-6195.
The location of a discontinued downtown businesses will soon be the home of Buck’s Barbecue. To be located at 2054 Main Street, Buck’s Barbecue is the creation of Good Burger Owner Matt Trott. Trott has been making interior renovations with the plan to open soon after New Year’s Day according to Manager Meagan Wheeler. Buck’s Barbecue will feature a traditional Texas barbecue menu including brisket, pork spare ribs, mac and cheese and cole slaw. Meat smoking equipment already in the space from the previous tenant will continue to be used said Wheeler.
Wheeler says they are in need of lots of cooks and counter help staff. Anyone interested in applying should bring a resume to the Good Burger location at 5687 Third Avenue, between Vista Drive and Main Street.
