Tennant Lake Annual Swan Watch scheduled

The community is invited to gather to watch as many as 300 Trumpeter and Tundra Swans that currently call Tennant Lake home as they lift off at sunrise on Saturday, February 9th.

The Annual Swan Watch event is from 7am to 10am, is free and all ages are welcome.

Friends of Tennant Lake and Hovander Park host the annual event. Organizers say attendees can expect to see “the swans form into small groups, bob their heads simultaneously and then lift off the water for the day’s forage.”

A guest speaker will be on site in the Tennant Lake Interpretive Center after the swans fly. Refreshments and hot drinks will be served. As in years past, rehabilitated swans healthy enough to be returned to the wild might be released after the presentation.

Attendees are advised to dress for the weather and bringing binoculars and cameras is advised.

Friends of Tennant Lake and Hovander Park are supported by the Whatcom Parks and Recreation Foundation and operate in partnership with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Whatcom County Parks.
