BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a report of a fully involved car fire in the intersection of Meridian Street and Kellogg Road about 9:45pm on Friday, January 6th.

Unconfirmed law enforcement radio reports from the scene were there had been a hit and run crash.
Bellingham Police Department (BPD) officials reported soon after they had located a suspect vehicle and detained the driver.
The BPD dispatch log indicated this was a fatal crash.
BPD officials said Meridian Street was closed to all traffic between Kellogg and Stuart Roads for several hours while the scene was investigated.
About 1:40am on Saturday, Teofilo Garcia Uribe, age 36, was booked into Whatcom County Jail and charged with suspicion of the following crimes.
- hit and run involving a death
- driving under the influence
- vehicular homicide while driving under the influence or in a reckless manner
According to jail records, the charges are expected to be brought in Whatcom County Superior Court and Uribe remained in custody Saturday morning without the opportunity to post bail pending a preliminary court appearance.
BPD did not immediately respond to a request for details regarding this incident.
