Sunday night fire destroys Edgemoor residence

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 10:25pm on Sunday, March 12th, to the 200 block of Bayside Road in Bellingham due to a report of a residential fire.

Approximate location of the fire

Bellingham Fire Department (BFD) Captain Dustin Michaelis told Whatcom News that firefighters arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in fire.

The 2 occupants safely evacuated the residence although 1 suffered minor injuries due to a fall and was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries.

Michaelis said the natural gas meter on the house was sheared off as the structure collapsed and the gas continued to fuel the fire. This required digging up the line on the property and crimping it to cut off the flow of gas.

The residence is a total loss according to Michaelis. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
