The community is in for a theatrical treat prepared by nearly 60 local kids who came together for rehearsals 4 days a week for just under a month. Honk! Jr. is a delightful adaptation of one of the most beloved fables, Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Ugly Duckling.”
Everyone is invited to the performances of Honk! Jr. which will run from Thursday, July 16th to Saturday, July 18th including a matinee on Saturday. All performances are at the Ferndale High School Auditorium. The cast is made up of young local performers, grades 3 through 12.
Here is a short sneak peek from Wednesday’s dress rehearsal.
These performances are the result of the Ferndale Arts Commission‘s inaugural Youth Summer Theater Camp for Ferndale kids age 8 through 18 years. The program was launched this year with a grant from the Whatcom Community Foundation. The goal is for ticket sales and other donations to continue to support the camp in the years to come.
Several adults also came together to lead the program and provide support. They include:
- Crissy Ford – director
- Rachel Pringle – costumes and choreography
- Katrina Moreau – art and painting
- Mike Ford – sound and sets
- Don Pringle – sets
- Amy Gallant – costumes and egg fund-raiser
During each performance plastic eggs stuffed with candy will be given out for donations as a fundraiser.
Tickets are $5 at the door. Children 5 years and under get in free.
