MT BAKER, Wash. — Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the Washington State Patrol (WSP) say they are responding to a report of a snowslide across the Mt Baker Highway (SR542) near the Mount Baker Ski Area.

WSDOT officials reported around 1pm today, May 29th, the highway was closed in both directions east of the Mt. Baker Ski Area (at milepost 53.5) due to a snow slide and they had dispatched maintenance crews are to clear it. They said there was no estimate for when the road would reopen, adding “it will take some time.”

WSP Trooper Rocky Oliphant told Whatcom News there appeared to be no one hit nor injured by the slide but there were vehicles on both sides and he was not sure if they would be able to get through right away.
