Ferndale’s skateboard park, located on Main Street between the Nooksack River bridge and the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railroad overpass, is no longer.
The skateboard park was equipped with a two rails designed to challenge skate boarders and bleacher for observers. These have all been removed and will be stored until the city or private parties develop plans for a skateboard park at a new location.
The city needed to remove the equipment in order to proceed with a project to upgrade the sanitary sewer pump station located at the same spot.
The project, according to the city website, will upgrade the aged pump station by
replacing the 12” sanitary sewer forced main, installing a new generator and new mechanical and electrical systems within the existing building, plus other improvements.
Another similarly vital pump station south of Main Street on Barrett Road will be receiving upgrades as well.
