LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Officials with Whatcom County Public Works announced today a section of West Shore Drive on Lummi Island has been closed due to the presence of a sinkhole.

According to today’s announcement, a sinkhole below the pavement has been determined to be larger than the hole in the surface of the road. Whatcom County Public Works staff are working to determine the cause and develop a plan to repair the road.

Until repairs can be made, the section of road, north and south of the sinkhole, is closed to all traffic.
